Seems that the revoltech line has gotten big enough to have a small event dedicated to itself!

I’ve been reading up on some of the reports on akiba hobby and I have to admit I was underwhelmed. Fraulein idolm@ster line and even a revoltech Gurren Lagann didn’t really appeal to me and the whole event seemed rather dull until I saw this:

Do mine eyes deceive me? Or is that a revoltech of the Laevatein?? If that is the case, Definitely DO WANT!! although a regular figure of some sort would do nicely as well.

Spoiler: for those not in the know, the ARX-8 Laevatein is the replacement/upgrade unit for the ARX-7 Arbalest in full metal panic. i.e. Sousukes new unit!! I won’t spoil the plot of the books, but it appears after the events in Owari day by day as animated in FMP: the second raid and it’s rather powerful, being able to take out several Codarls and Behemoths single handedly and in a matter of minutes…

(Edit: in case people are curious, a colour pic of the laevatein can be seen here)

Not much to update now. The inner frame has been completely painted in a mix of dark grey and metallic paint to give it a sort of shiny grey look. Pretty hard to see from this pic and will be even harder once it’s fully completed since only a small amount will be visible…

The gold parts near the top correspond to the air vents once the outer armour is applied. I had planned to make them gold since the beginning, but I must admit that the initial grey did look very good! There was also some very minor detailing done in certain areas (like the pistons in the feet) and the whole frame was drybrushed with a dark metal colour to highlight some more details but the main point was to try and remove some of that plastic look, which worked out pretty well.

The hands were also slightly modified by having the fingers cut into separate digits. Initially, the 4 fingers and thumb came in 3 parts with the 3 less used digits moulded in 1 part. I cut them separately to give it a little more articulation. you can see the difference in the pic after the jump.

Really old news but I completely forgot about this little tidbit of info…

A second promo video for OG gaiden has now been released. The game is still currently penciled in for a late December release, but this is Super robot wars we are talking about…

I’m not sure why, but I’m finding it quite hard to get worked up about this release. Maybe it’s because I have STILL yet to fully complete OGS but gaiden really hasn’t really shown up on my radar. Having said that, the last SRW game to really grab my attention was Alpha 3. But seeing as this is almost certain to be the last PS2 super robot wars game, we’ll see if there are any surprises in store, other than General Dynamic, which I still think is just wrong.
And I did really like the new twin bird stike animation but then i’ve always been a sucker for the wild series.

After noticing a disturbing lack of mecha (one of my fave anime genres, if not my #1) I though I would go back and start on a gunpla! I’ve actually had strike freedom for quite some time after preordering it last year! I even remember ordering the “special edition” version before anyone even knew what was so special about it, but at long last, Strike Freedom Full burst is starting to show!

I’ll be honest here, I’m not a big fan of Strike Freedom. I much prefer the original incarnation (which I already have the MG for).  My dislike for the mecha may have stemmed from the show it appeared in, but I do tend to keep to a pseudo “hate the pilot, not the mecha” approach, except in this case…

Nevertheless, I picked up the MG and what is shown above is the “out of the box” look for the kit.

So far very little is done to it, but that will change.

I’ve managed to get through several eps of various shows now so I have a good idea on what I think is worth watching and what isn’t. Similar format to last time. There are 3 Tiers, Must watch, Entertaining and Why am I watching this again?? There are also some shows from last season which I have yet to finish. They are:

Claymore (still going strong but slowly. Picked up some of the later manga chapters tho…)

Denno Coil (getting wierder but still fun)

Hayate No Gotoku (getting less funny. Probably because I have read ahead in the manga so the impact is lessened. May drop this)

Sky Girls (yup! Still going!)

Higurashi Kai (it’s not over yet)

But enough about the old shows, here’s the new list!

Must watch

Gundam 00

A no brainer here, since a mecha show is always in my “must watch” pile and this is pretty much the only one this season. Nevertheless, it has marked itself as being very different from previous gundam shows in that it pays far more attention to the politics of the world stage as opposed to a single side or faction. This has both good and bad points but it still makes the show feel a little refreshing.

The pace is also relatively quick, since it’s going to be 2 26 ep seasons as opposed to 1 50~something eps. I just hope that the plot doesn’t suffer because of it.

Minami-Ke

This show is just damn funny. No other reasons needed to enjoy this show, right? The best thing is that the humour manages to stick on the good side of slapstick. The characters do some really stupid things, but you get the feeling that you were like that as a kid too. The humour is also universal, something lucky star failed quite amazingly at!

Shakugan no Shana second

Bringing up the rear we have shana II. Admittedly, it’s a lot weaker than the first season and while it is still entertaining, I’m not sure if it’ll keep the “must watch” status. Early eps just seem to drag the story on without allowing it to progress. The OP and ED songs are great tho!

Danny Choo has posted pics of 2 Resin kits of Yoko due for release in December. Click on the links for more pics! HLJ have both up for preorder but I’m having a hard time choosing which one…

I know that many PVC figure lovers are wishing for the first kit, but as a resin kit maker, I have to say I’m favouring the second kit a little more. due to parts of the kit being more interesting to paint (the jacket) and the fact that the hair strands on the first kit are sure to be individual parts and will be an absolute pain to put together…

Having gone thru this for several kits already, notably my Ren, I know how annoying it can be when your kit has too many fragile parts.

Also, one of my rules of resin kit building states that there shall be only 1 kit of any particular character. This was initially to stop myself from buying and old resin kit as it forced me to think if this really was the best kit for the character as I would not be able to buy another. However, this rule has now been broken since I have purchased 2 kits of C.C from code geass from Wonderfestival and is now under review.

What do people think? you they believe that the rule is a good one? or should it be scrapped?

And for those wondering, I have 4 rules:

1) The character represented in the kit must be female. Not really a problem since 90% of all kits are of female characters anyway.

2) No H kits

3 Only 1 kit per character in my collection. (under review)

4) If the character is from a game or anime, I must know the game/anime they are from! I won’t buy a kit of a character from a show I have never watched or a game I have never played. Original characters are exempt, but they are scrutinized more harshly.

So what do people think? Which kit do you think I should go for? or do all of you think that I should just scrap rule 3 and get both?

*sigh* my list of kits to build is growing ever larger. But at least I have plenty of material for this blog for the time being…

I know there are probably quite a few ppl out there who have been waiting for this!! The official macross website has recently been updates with *drumroll*

A PV for Macross Frontier!!!

http://macross.co.jp/?id=special,2007111001

Follow the link and prepare to wait for a long time as this PV takes an age and a half to cache! Best go get a drink or whack out any handheld system to kill time.

Once it loads, we are treated to high quality shots of megaroad ships, brief views of characters and a snippet of action from the newest member of the Variable fighter, the VF25, including it’s transformation sequence!!

*edit* Lower quality youtube video now up for grabs!

The good

  • Damn, the quality of the animation looks top notch! The battle sequences suffer a bit but the new city ships look amazing
  • Not a single trace of mythology, musical weapons, vampire aliens or random mumbo jumbo. Just character interactions and cool action sequences. I know it’s too early to tell, but I dare say if they keep the feel of the PV, Macross is BACK!!!
  • The music. Yoko Kanno is always good.

The Bad

  • While there are not Vampire aliens, the main enemies getting beaten up in the promo are definitely extra-terrestrial. Also, given that the overall director is Shouji Kawamori, I fear that it’s only a matter of time before the feared random mythology and general stupidity will be involved somehow. We just haven’t seen it. I know I said good things about the feeling i get from the show in the above remarks, but let’s be realistic…
  • The VF25. While the individual modes are pretty nice to look at, the transformation was very flimsy. People looking forward to the inevitable expensive Yamato toy will probably have to be extra careful when they get theirs. It also gave some really big aquarion Vibes. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing…

In any case, I hope that the good points from the PV shine and we get zero Kawamori mumbo jumbo when the series finally airs.

Well, there was no way I was going to pass up on one of these!!! It’s YOTSUBA!!!! in revolvtech form!

(Note: the title of the post was from one of my fave yotsuba sketches (when she goes around shooting ppl with a water pistol quoting a movie she just saw. It’s not a dig at ppl who bought yotsuba by implying they are pedo. Though Don over at orbital, is…)

As always, click on the pics for bigger versions.
